Our story

Horsham Performers Platform was established in 2009 by three local musicians and educators: Kay Tucker, Rachel Ellis and Rosemary Hensor (pictured here from left to right with adjudicator Jena Pang second-left).

Kay started adjudicating for the British International Federation of Festivals back in 1997, and was keen to see the return of such a festival in Horsham. Rachel Ellis, a prominent local teacher and performer (including as leader of Horsham Symphony Orchestra), sought to re-establish a local festival to bring encouragement to both pupils and teachers across the Horsham District. Before retirement, Rosemary was a well-established and widely respected teacher and accompanist who also hosted an external music examinations centre in her own home for many years. As a child, she took part in some of Horsham’s original adjudicated music festivals!

HPP’s early success was rewarded in 2012 with membership of the British and International Federation of Festivals. In January 2018, HPP became a registered charity.
